Utusan Melayu Bhd today recorded a pre-tax losses expanding three-fold due to lower revenue and higher impairment charges. – The Malaysian Insider pic, February 25, 2015.Utusan Melayu Bhd's pre-tax loss expanded three-fold to RM82.64 million in the financial year ending December 31, 2014, from RM20.39 million previously, due to lower revenue and higher impairment charges on trade and other receivables.Revenue dipped to RM291.32 million during the year under review, from RM342.43 million, on the back of weaker contribution from the publishing, distribution and advertising segment.The revenue from these segments in the last quarter decreased by 13.5%, mainly due to a significant reduction in advertising, said the publication company in a filing to Bursa Malaysia today.But the group expects 2015 to remain challenging in view of increasing competition for market share of advertising expenditure and newspaper circulation."Nevertheless, we will continue with our newspapers' content improvement strategies and offer creative packages for advertisements," it said.The group will also continue to adopt prudent cost saving strategies in its business operations, including undertaking measures to reduce the return rate by employing efficient allocation of newspapers and magazine supplies. – Bernama, February 25, 2015.
