After two PAS men attacked, DAP tells coalition leaders to be on alert

DAP urged its coalition leaders to be on alert following attacks on two PAS leaders recently, saying that it could not rule out the possibility that Umno's agent provocateurs could be behind it.Party parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said he believes that provocateurs from the ruling government were trying to destabilise and destroy Pakatan Rakyat's unity by distracting people's attention from Umno and Barisan Nasional's own woes."The responsibility of Umno and BN agent provocateurs for the recent assaults on PAS leaders, such as PAS MP Dr Hatta Ramli and Dr Dzukefly Ahmad have not and cannot be ruled out – which is why Pakatan Raykat leaders should be very careful about what they say and do in public," said Lim in a statement today. It was reported that Dr Dzulkefly, a PAS central committee member was assaulted by unknown assailants at the porch of his Shah Alam home yesterday. On February 14, PAS elections director, Dr Mohd Hatta had his four-wheel drive vehicle torched outside his home in Kuala Lumpur.Lim today criticised Kelantan deputy menteri besar Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah who said that the door was closed to DAP in its bid to stop the Islamist party from taking the hudud bill to the Kelantan State Assembly.Mohd Amar had reportedly said that there would be no more talk with DAP, and that he had explained the reasons for the hudud amendment to DAP's top leadership at least four times. But Lim said today that Mohd Amar had only briefed DAP leaders on the bill once at the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council meeting on February 8.Lim added that at the meeting attended by Pakatan leaders including PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, Mohd Amar, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, it was agreed that the proposed hudud bill would be presented to the Pakatan leadership council meeting before it was taken to the state assembly. He said that while it was up to Mohd Amar if he wanted to renege on the commitment made at the leadership council meeting, he added that he was certain that former PAS spiritual advisor Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat would never have gone back on such an undertaking.Lim, who is also Gelang Patah MP, said that instead, he was certain that Nik Aziz would have seen the bigger picture, on the need to protect and enhance the unity and solidarity of Pakatan, in order to replace Umno and BN in the next general election. He added that this was also the reason why Nik Aziz had given his blessings to the Pakatan Common Policy Framework, to focus on common policy positions among DAP, PKR and PAS while putting aside policy differences like the hudud law."This is also the reason why Nik Aziz was the strongest opponent to the unity government between Umno and PAS, the strongest voice in PAS against any unity government," he said.As such, Lim urged Pakatan leaders to strengthen on Pakatan unity, instead of creating greater divisions among the coalition parties. – March 6, 2015
